The world championships in Aberdeen are over. After two days with no wins the Canadian team saved the best for last in the final round of round robin play Travis Anderson recorded a one point win against Norway. The triples team of yours truly, John MacKenzie and Louisa Arthur recorded a win of 13-10 against Swede. That was despite giving up a fiv ender early in the game.
It has been a great three days playing against some very accomplished bowlers with most games being played in a wonderful spirit. We learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves whatever the result. We have a long way to go to match the depth of talent in Europe but we wil keep trying. Apologies for the short report but your corespondent is rather tired. I will provide a longer and more considered resume of the event in a few days time. Bill Arthur Aberdeen March 19th

It’s always difficult to keep track of what is happening when playing and reporting. Also difficult o keep track of the scores so some of this information is missing and this report is a general summary of what went on.
Starting with the bad news. Canada has not yet recorded a win but that does not reflect the standard of play. Those who have been to the worlds will understand the level of other countries ability and what a gap Canada faces to compete. Having said that there were some good performances. Apologies if I tell you more about the Canada A triples but since that is my team I know more of what went on. There were good performances in singles from Travis Anderson. He was always competitive and in most games was usually in contention without ever being able to close out a game. In the Pairs Marion Brunton and Penny Heneke were very close to claiming Canda’s first win but just failed in the last couple of ends as you will have seen if you watched the live stream. It was a similar story for the Pairs B team who were tied with Belgium with only two ends to play but lost the last two ends. In the Canada A triples we got off to a great start to the day and were head to head with England eventually losing 8-11. Against Belgium there would have been only one point in it if we hadn’t given up a six in one end!. We lost by 7. In our final game of the day we played the best team in our group. Norway had a perfect 6-0 record and played superbly. We strayed badly then managed to hold our own after the first two ends. I cannot remember what the final score was but putting a positive spin on the game we won 5 ends to their 7. The only problem was we usually scored one when we won an end but they had multiple scores when they won an end. I can’t really comment on the Canada B triples and the two Fours teams as I was unable to see much of their games. The team is still in good spirits, enjoying the games and learning all the time. Final round robin games in the morning. We play Scotland and Sweden and will be trying to record a win to conclude the round robin. Bill Arthur Saturday night in Aberdeen The world championships start on Friday March 17th. Results will be posted here. There may be slight delays depending upon the timing of my own games. I will also be posting on Facebook and Twitter. There will be a round up at the end of each day.
Bill Arthur Day 1 was a struggle. No wins across all disciplines. Some close games from Travis Anderson in singles, also from Marion Brunton and Penny Heneke in pairs. In Trips Canada B were close with Netherlands but lost in last end. Canada A trips should have beaten Isle of Man and Germany, played better against Wales and Ireland but still lost out.
